Excludes international flights, visas, insurance and personal shopping. Visa rules depend on nationality; check official sources. Exchange rates are rough placeholders. If any of your travel dates fall near major festivals, public holidays or long weekends, flights, hotels and local transport can cost noticeably more and sell out early.
Daily cost: each destination has a base daily cost in USD made up of a double-room price (50%) and one person's spending on meals, activities and local transport (50%). Base figures were raised by 35% to reflect typical costs for international visitors. It is multiplied by your stay style: Budget ×0.7, Mid-range ×1.0, Mixed ×1.5, Luxury ×3.0.
Outside-city premium: wildlife areas +25%, hill areas +15% and beach areas +10%, because lodges and remote stays cost more and have fewer options. Remote destinations (such as Ladakh, Spiti, Andaman, Kaziranga, Kanha, Meghalaya, Kutch, Gir, Corbett and Ranthambore) get a further +10%.
Season pricing: in-season destinations cost 10% more. Dec and Jan add another 15% for most places, and May and Jun add 15% for hill areas in season. Shoulder season is 10% lower and off-season is 25% lower. Season follows the month you choose.
Rooms and accommodation: the 50% accommodation share is the price of one double room per night (two people sharing). Rooms = travelers ÷ 2, rounded up. A solo traveler pays 80% of a double room. Group accommodation = rooms × room price, so a couple pays for one room, not two. Meals 22%, activities 20% and local transport 8% are per person. Children aged 2 to 11 share their parents' room for a 25% room supplement each, spend 60% of an adult's meals, activities and local transport, and pay the full fare, on domestic travel too. Infants under 2 add no room cost, spend 10%, and pay 10% of the adult fare on international and domestic flights (minimum 25 USD per flight) and 10% on road or rail legs. Teens 12 and over count as adults. Per-person figures are averages across everyone in the group.
Domestic travel: distance is the straight-line distance between destinations × 1.3. Under 600 km we assume road or rail at 50 km/h and 0.04 USD per km. Over 600 km we assume a flight: 2.5 hours + distance ÷ 700 km/h, costing 70 USD + 0.05 USD per km.
International flights: if your budget includes them, an allowance based on the region you fly from is subtracted per person before we compare your budget per day with each destination's daily cost. Illustrative round-trip economy allowances in USD: Gulf, Middle East and nearby Asia (Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia) 400, other Southeast Asia 450, East Asia and Pakistan (limited direct flights from Pakistan) 700, Africa 700, Europe and UK 800, Australia 1000, New Zealand 1200, North America 1200, Central and South America 1200, Not sure 900. Flights are never added to the itinerary total.
Contingency: 10% added on top of daily costs and domestic travel. Totals are shown per person and for the whole group (per person × travelers).
Nights: total nights = days − 1, shared across stops in proportion to each destination's recommended nights, with at least 1 night each.
Currency: converted from USD at fixed placeholder rates (GBP 0.7542, EUR 0.8935, CAD 1.4228, AUD 1.4289, SGD 1.2818, INR 95.16). These are not live exchange rates.
Match score: interests 38% (your first choice counts 3×, second 2×, others 1×), geographic fit 14%, season 14%, budget fit 12%, party suitability 8%, first-time or repeat novelty 8%, trip-length fit 6%. Picking several destinations of the same type lowers each extra one's score by 10 points. The result is an estimated preference match, not a quality rating.
• Places you ask to avoid are excluded before ranking, and wheelchair access excludes destinations with low mobility ratings.
• Destinations scoring below 35% are not recommended, so you may see fewer results than expected. We never force a fixed number.
• Budget checks: we block a budget of zero, an unrealistically large number, or one that does not cover the regional flight allowance when flights are included. After the flight allowance, a budget per person per day below the cheapest destination cost (× your stay style) shows a low-budget warning. A budget above 2.5× the most expensive destination cost shows a high-budget note. Neither case hides results.
• Affordability: the stay style is always the one you choose; we never assume a higher style from your budget. For your selected route we compare its estimated cost per person (daily costs and domestic travel plus 10% contingency) with your budget after flights. If it is over, we say so and name the highest stay style that would fit.
• The number of stops follows your pace and trip length (about 4, 3 or 2.3 nights per stop for relaxed, balanced and fast-paced).
• A route is flagged when it spends more than about 2.2 hours per trip day in transit, or has fewer nights than stops, and you are offered a stop to drop.
• Off-season and shoulder-season warnings are shown on every card. Seasons are general guides, not forecasts.
• Festivals and long weekends: if any of your travel dates fall near major festivals, public holidays or long weekends, travel costs may be higher and availability lower than our estimates. Our seasonal pricing does not model specific festival dates. We list key local festivals by approximate month for some destinations (for example Rath Yatra in Puri, Durga Puja in Kolkata, Pushkar Camel Fair), but many follow lunar calendars and move each year, so always check the current dates. The list is not complete.
• Nothing here is a live price, schedule, availability or weather check, and nothing is booked.
• Visa rules depend on nationality and change over time. We do not give visa advice; check the official government source.
• We do not assume your nationality, currency or familiarity with India. Health, accessibility and dietary needs need checking with providers directly.

The destination list follows the monuments and entry points that matter most to international visitors in the India Tourism Data Compendium 2024 (Ministry of Tourism): the most visited centrally protected monuments (Taj Mahal, Konark Sun Temple, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Agra Fort, Bibi Ka Maqbara, Ellora, Golconda Fort, Fort Aguada and Charminar are covered), and the main international entry airports (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Goa and Amritsar), which are marked as gateway cities for route planning. Costs, best months, nights and attractions remain illustrative and unverified.
